Divorce

A divorcing couple typically has at least one issue that is most critical to them: child custody, parenting time a.k.a. visitation, child support, alimony or division of property.

As your divorce lawyer,

  • We will explain divorce law which is based on fault grounds like adultery, desertion, cruel and abusive treatment, and also no-fault divorce where the grounds are simply irretrievable breakdown.
  • We will help you determine your needs and your goals and create a strategy to best meet those goals.
  • We have offices throughout Southern Boston and the South Shore.

The court must grant a final divorce. However, in Massachusetts you can address the division of property, custody of your children, and financial support in one of four ways.

As our client, we can proceed by:

  • Filing a contested divorce with financial and/or child custody issues being addressed immediately via temporary orders; or
  • Representing you in negotiations with your spouse by the uncontested divorce where both you and your spouse negotiate issues outside of court and thereafter present an agreed-upon settlement to the court; or
  • Advise you through the mediation process where we use a neutral third party to help resolve the disputed issues; or
  • By using the collaborative law approach where both parties and their lawyers determine to settle the disputed issues together.
